Boone Lake, named for Daniel Boone,  is one of Tennessee's many large reservoirs created by the Tennessee Valley Authority. Boone Lake is 4,520 acres in size and is a popular lake for fishing, swimming and boating.

The lake has plenty of access for recreational boaters, with several public boat ramps and marinas.  There a swimming area with a sandy beach above the dam.

Towns near Boone Lake include Piney Flats, Blountville and Johnson City. There are residential developments located all along the shores of the lake. Subdivisions and developments include The Cliffs at Boone Lake, Grande Harbor, and The Groves (townhouses).
